Day 3 of 10 Days of Prayer

Day 3 of 10 Days of Prayer
By: Pastor D. Karl Thomas

Welcome to Day 3 of 10 Days Of Prayer.

If God’s hears and answers prayer … We should pray … and be the best we can at the discipline of prayer.

When’s the last time you evaluated your prayer life? Could your prayer life use a renovation? How do you approach your  prayer life?

Luke 11:1
And it came to pass, as he was praying in a certain place, that when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray,

The disciples said, “Lord teach us to pray.” I think as they spent time with Jesus they came to realize that His prayer life had a lot to do with what happened throughout the day. His kind of praying got results.

In Acts 2 the early church practiced specific disciplines. One of those properly translated is THE Prayers.

Was it specific times of prayer or was it specific prayers. I think it was both. I think the purposefully prayed specific scriptures as well as the prayer that Jesus gave them. Praying the Word can establish yourself in the nature and purpose of God. Praying at regular times can create bring a sense of stability and consistency to your life. (That was from Pastor Cheryl)

Acts 2:41-42  (ESV)
“So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.”

Psalm 55:17
Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud, and he shall hear my voice.”

Daniel 6:10
“Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he had done aforetime.”

I like using devotionals for my prayer times. There are many of those on line. We have access to so many tools that can enrich our prayer life. We have several books in the bookstore that can be useful as guide for prayer.

Peter and John were headed to a specific time of prayer when they healed the lame man at the gate beautiful.

Acts 3:1
“Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.”

Peter had the vision on the Roof of Simon the tanner during a specific time of prayer.

Acts 10:9
“Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour: And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance…”

Cornelius the Roman soldier had a angelic visitation when he was in the hour of prayer.

Acts 10:30
“And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing…”

I’m sharing this with you because I have been challenged to schedule more specific times of prayer and specific Scriptural prayers in my life this year. Perhaps you might feel led to join me. My greatest desire is to encourage each of us to devote ourselves in a greater way to the ministry of prayer. Come on!!! Pray with me!!!

Prayer Directives:

1. Pray for your Pastors and staff at the church as we prepare to serve the local church in this new year.
2. Pray for our local leadership team as we seek the Lord for His direction this year. We are believing for accelerated growth this year which may present us with some significant challenges and decisions to make.
3. Pray for a Spirit of Prayerfulness to baptize the Body of Christ.
4. Pray for healthy families and healthy support networks in our community at Impact Church.
5. Pray that everyone will embrace the value of connecting and supporting one another in small groups.
6. Pray for all of our servant ministry teams to be refreshed and experience baptism of God’s grace for ministry.

Thank You!!!

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.
    Psalm 23:1-6

Father thank you for the leaders and staff at Impact. Bless them with the knowledge of your abiding presence, power and care. Keep them in health and strength.

Baptize the body of Christ in the knowledge of their union with you. May we pray from a place of being one with the Godhead and the eternal purpose of God.

Thank you for health in all aspects of life. Healthy bodies and relationships in Jesus Name!

Thank you for all our servant ministry teams who give graciously of themselves to advance your purpose.

Surround my Impact family with your loving embrace. Amen

What an important teaching! Without intentionality, little is accomplished especially in the realm of prayer. When we are focused and convinced of God’s goodness and faithfulness, when we are sure that He hears and answers – how can we not pray with confidence and assurance of divine results?

Father we join our hearts and spirits with our local leadership as they face this new year with great anticipation of what you are already doing and will do to advance the kingdom in our church, this city and this country! Bring refreshing revelation. Thank you for all those who volunteer their time and strength in all aspects of ministry at Impact – may You pour in grace and refreshing even as they pour out their lives to serve the body of Christ!

It is so good to know that Impact Church is praying together again. I am praying with you. It is my habit to bring people before the Lord and pray in the Spirit for them. I also like to pray along with the Lords Prayer the prayers of Paul in Ephesians 1 & 3 and Colossians 1. So I pray now from Ephesians 3:19 that you may really come to know( practically through experience for yourselves) the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge ( without experience); that you may be filled( through all your being) unto all the fullness of God( may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God himself). We are continuing to pray the prayer directives and we agree wholeheartedly with the comment that Sharon made above. Ephesians 3:19 has always been one of our favourite verses. Every time I read it I get so full of love and anticipation and excitement. Just think of it….”filled through all your being”….”.become a body wholly filled and flooded with God himself.” I got to say Wow! Being aware of God appointments throughout the day too, is important. Like when you are listening to the news….you can enter in and pray into the situation…..or you can get an urging to pray when an ambulance or fire truck whizzes by you in the traffic. What about that person who drives like there is no tomorrow ….what is going on there….take the time to pray when you are stuck at a railroad track on Adelaide Street instead of whining. These are just some or our thoughts. Bless those people Lord who are working on renovating the church and their prayer lives. We lift up our leadership as they receive direction from you Lord…..drop pearls of wisdom onto their heads and give all the volunteers refreshing peace today!

Father we thank you for the families at Impact church and prayer that you would continue to be their shepherd to lead and guide them into green pastures and be their wisdom when they go through the valley. We declare your favour and your face to shine upon them.

Thank you for our Pastors, leaders, and all of our ministry teams Father. I do pray that each one would be refreshed in every way. We are entering a new year and a new season. We do declare that it will be a year of great growth. We know that you will guide and lead every step of the way and we lean into You. God, we are getting ready for our small groups to begin for the winter. I ask that everyone will experience real connection. Keep drawing people. Help us as we prepare and make ourselves ready. We go forward in a Spirit of Prayerfulness. In Jesus name.
