Day 4 of 10 Days of Prayer

Day 4 of 10 Days of Prayer

Question: “What does it mean to be in one accord?”

Answer: The concept of being in one accord is expressed frequently in the Bible, with ten instances in the book of Acts. For example, “All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers” (Acts 1:14, ESV). To be in one accord communicates being one in heart and mind.

The words in the original language talks about the inner unity of a group of people engaged in a similar action. Romans 15:6“So that you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ with one mind and one voice” (CSB).

When a group of people act single-mindedly, unanimously, in harmony, in unity, and without discord, they are operating in one accord.

Live happily together in a spirit of harmony and be as mindful of another’s worth as you are your own. Don’t live with a lofty mind-set, thinking you are too important to serve others, but be willing to do menial tasks and identify with those who are humble minded.[f] Don’t be smug or even think for a moment that you know it all.” Romans 12:16 TPT

In the Old Testament, the phrase in one accord is always used to describe unanimous participation in a particular action.

Zephaniah 3:9 says, “For at that time I will change the speech of the peoples to a pure speech, that all of them may call upon the name of the LORD and serve him with one accord” (ESV). Here, the phrase translated “with one accord” literally means “with one shoulder.” It likely comes from the practice of yoking oxen together for plowing. The NIV translates the idea, “shoulder to shoulder.”

In the New Testament, in one accord is used to emphasize the agreement of a community. In Acts 8:6, it describes the crowd of people who are listening to Philip’s teachings: “And the crowds with one accord paid attention to what was being said by Philip, when they heard him and saw the signs that he did” (ESV). It illustrates how the community of Christian believers worshipped, prayed, and fellowshipped together.

(Acts 1:142:464:245:12Romans 15:6). Unity in the early church is also expressed by the sharing of material possessions: “Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common”

(Acts 4:32, ESV). The early church, being in one accord, had “no schisms, no divided interests”.
This kind of oneness of heart and soul in the body of Christ is only possible through the Holy Spirit’s enabling.

(Ephesians 4:1–6). It is a gift of God’s grace (Romans 12:3–13). The Greek term translated “in one accord,” according to the Enhanced Strong’s Lexicon, “helps us understand the uniqueness of the Christian community. . . The image is almost musical; a number of notes are sounded which, while different, harmonize in pitch and tone. As the instruments of a great concert under the direction of a concert master, so the Holy Spirit blends together the lives of its members.” Psalm 133:1 NKJV “Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.”

We at Impact Church Bridgewater have come under the umbrella and covering as an extension of Impact London. Our roots, our trunk, and branches are of the same material all being nurtured by the Holy Spirit himself.

Like mind, like vision, like heart, all in harmony yet individual enough to showcase the giftings that God has equipped us with. Shoulder to shoulder we lock arms, yoked together to work the fields of Bridgewater. We are eternally grateful as well for the sharing of resources to equip Impact Church Bridgewater to reflect the heart of the Father in the Maritimes.

Prayer Directives:

We are not robotic and don’t respond out of ritual but we respond out of relationship. We pray for unity in the faith and for a victorious vision to reach our respective communities with the gift of grace; that God will be more than a picture in a stained-glass window. That God will not be limited to merely what we read in scripture but that He would be alive and be seen in the lives of those of us called to represent him.

As I reflect, the image that comes to mind is a multi-faceted fruit tree which is made up of limitless kinds of different fruit. As we grow together under the canopy of God’s Grace, all of us are ripening into our own unique type of fruit which contributes to the beauty and splendour of the corporate body unified under Jesus.

Heavenly Father I ask that You would grant the body of Christ a full revelation and manifestation of the Wisdom and Understanding You have given us through Jesus Christ our Lord. I ask that we would experience the Power of Holy Spirit in each of our lives. As we begin to pray for our families, our co workers, our city and our country may we encounter Your supernatural healing power for them and for us. In Jesus Name I pray amen.
