RECAP

Ruth 1:1 “In the days when the judges ruled in Israel…”

Cycle of Blessings:Serve God – sin and idolatry – enslavement – call out to God – God raises up a judge – Israel is delivered.

Our experience with the repentance cycle.

In the midst of this cycle, this time, this understanding of God, right in the middle of this nastiness God places a story and a picture of redemption.

Naomi and Ruth

Elimelech and his wife Naomi along with their two sons Mahlon and Kilion, left Bethlehemand moved to settle in Moab.

While in Moab the two sons married Moabite women, one married Ruth and the other married Orpah.  – Moabite women are bad! Balaam’s advice!

Naomi’s son’s and husband die, she’s jaded… she’s got a bad picture of God.

Ruth 1:13 & 21 “the Lord has raised his fist against me…the Almighty has caused tragedy to come upon me.”

She’s got a really bad perspective but decides to go back to Bethlehem.

Ruth its says clung tightly to Naomi. She said to Naomi “Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. Ruth 1:16-17

So when they get there, they no money, so goes to gleaning in the fields.
And ends up gleaning in Boaz’s field.

So Boaz notices Ruth… and as a type of our Kinsmen Redeemer, Jesus he notices you. He see’s you! The eyes of the Lord are on you. He’s watching!

Isaiah 57:17b-18 (AMP)
“…he went on turning away and backsliding, in the way of his [own willful] heart. I have seen his [willful] ways, but I will heal him;

So Boaz, he notices Ruth…  Ruth notices him, noticing her, and tells Naomi. Ruth follow Naomi’s instructions and comes home with a positive report about after her “encounter” encounter with Boaz, he is going to look into their redemption.

Naomi replies, “Just be patient, my daughter, until we hear what happens, THE MAN WONT REST UNTIL HE HAS SETTLED THINGS TODAY.” Ruth 3:18

A picture of Jesus. Its settled! He settled our sin issue…

Hebrews 10:12-13 (NKJV)
But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool.”

He settled sanctification…
Hebrews 10:10 “By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all.”

He settle the curse of the law
Galatians 3:13 “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written “cursed is anyone who hangs on a tree.”

Yet, we can be unsettled in our hearts and minds if we don’t see just HOW settled it is.

How he settled it!

1. He puts a plan in motion.

Ruth 4:1 he takes his seat at the gate, a governing position, and when this other relative comes by he calls him aside along with ten other leaders from the town and he starts to enact His plan of redemption.

Martin Lloyd-Jones
Redemption is a definite plan. There is nothing “incidental or contingent” about the plan of redemption.“The plan of redemption is an entire plan: a perfect, definite plan, down to the smallest detail.”

God is at work and has been from before you were even born to secure your redemption.

God’s not surprised at your decisions, your mistakes, or your sins. It was his plan all along to put you in Christ and Christ in you.

As part of God’s plan we were predestined to:

“be holy and with our blame” Eph. 1
“To adoptions as sons.” Eph. 1
“To be in the image and likeness of Jesus.” Rom. 8
“Redemption through the precious blood of Christ.” 1 Peter 1.
“Christ to be in you and you in Him.” Col. 1

2. (Part of the Plan is first to “look”) Looks for a Redeemer

Ruth 4:3-4 New Living Translation (NLT)
And Boaz said to the family redeemer, “You know Naomi, who came back from Moab. She is selling the land that belonged to our relative Elimelech. I thought I should speak to you about it so that you can redeem it if you wish. If you want the land, then buy it here in the presence of these witnesses. But if you don’t want it, let me know right away,…”

So he’s asks if the other one will do it, if he can do it.

Psalms 49:5-9
“Yet they cannot redeem themselves from death by paying a ransom to God. Redemption does not come so easily, for no one can ever pay enough to live forever and never see the grave.”

The Law can’t redeem you either!

Romans 8:3 (NLT)
The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature [FLESH]. So God did what the law could not do.

3. Presents himself as the redeemer….

“Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me… ‘Here I am…’

Leviticus 25:25 New Living Translation (NLT)
If one of your fellow Israelites falls into poverty and is forced to sell some family land, then a close relativeshould buy it back for him.

Jesus became our relative… a human.

John 1:14
So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

Hebrews 2:17 (NLT)
Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people.

When a family member buys it back.. it is bought back completely.

4. He paid the price.

Ruth 4:9 “You are witnesses that today I have boughtfrom Naomi all the property of Elimelech, Kilion, and Mahlon. And with land I have acquired Ruth the Moabite widow of Mahon, to be my wife.”

What was the price of our redemption?

Ephesians 1:7 New King James Version (NKJV)
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.

1 Peter 1 :18-20”
knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, likesilver or gold, from your aimless conduct receivedby tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

This is not an economic transaction… anyone paid the price for success?

The price conveyed a message that our salvation was costly… not that its was the result of an actual transaction between parties.

5. He Redeems and Restores.

Ruth 4:10 (NLT)
And with the land I have acquired Ruth, the Moabite widow of Mahlon, to be my wife. This way she can have a son to carry on the family name of her dead husband and to inherit the family property here in his hometown. You are all witnesses today.”

Redemption in Boaz’ mind is more than just restoring to original condition… its restoring to the fullness of Gods plan and purpose…“this way she can carry one… go past where she once was…”

And that’s what Jesus has done for us.

Redemption:
Don’t see it as merely a restoration to your former fortunes, nor merely as a second chance, or a resolution to a life problem.

It is absolute deliverance from all that is less that God’s original purpose for you: Christ!

God’s not redeeming you in the sense that he’s giving you a second chance… he redeemed you and given you everything He is and Has.

What does that look like? Jesus!

Romans 8:29-30
God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son. The Son stands first in the line of humanity he restored. We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him.”

Ephesians 1:4-5,7,11
“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure…”

…He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom [He redeemed us] with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins…Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.”

Our redemption is settled!

Let it be settled in you.
