#252 The Power Twins of Faith and Patience
By: Pastor Karl Thomas

Patience:— is the state of endurance under difficult circumstances, which can mean persevering in the face of delay or provocation without acting on negative annoyance/anger; or exhibiting forbearance when under strain,… especially when faced with longer-term difficulties. Patience is the level of endurance one can have before negativity. It is also used to refer to the character trait of being steadfast.

Patience:– “The capacity to put up with adversity without complaint. The ability to wait or persevere without losing heart or becoming bored.” (Websters)

Patience:– “…not simply the ability to bear circumstances…it is the ability to turn them to greatness and glory.” Wm. Barclay

Hebrews 6:11-12,15
“And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises … And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.”

Hebrews 10:35-36
“Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.”

Patience (mak-roth-oo-mee’-ah)   :— Compound of 2 words,  Long Passion — patience, endurance, constancy, steadfastness, perseverance

Patience (hoop-om-on-ay’):—  Compound of 2 words Remain Under —steadfastness, constancy, endurance. In the NT the characteristic of a man who is not swerved from his deliberate purpose and his loyalty to faith and piety by even the greatest trials and sufferings. (Strongs)

1 Corinthians 10:13
“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”

Exercise your faith in God’s Word then let patience have her perfect work. The force of faith is at work, undergirded by the power of patience. Patience begins to work from the time that you believed you received, and it must be allowed to work until the promise is manifest.

To realize promises we must develop patience.
Faith and patience are power twins that must operate together
Faith is developed through revelation knowledge. WORD
Patience is developed through overcoming trials. CONSTANCY

Examples of Impatience:
Abram – Ishmael
Moses – Killed Egyptian – Rock
Saul  – Acted without Samuel
Esau – Cup of Soup
Peter – Chops off ear
Don’t take God’s purpose in your own hands. Act in the flesh.

Examples Of Patience:
Joseph – Never complained
Noah   – Built for 100 years
Daniel – Lions den
3 Lads – Fiery furnace
Job    –  James 5:11 “Indeed we count them blessed who endure. … perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord…”

Patience Of Caleb –
Joshua 14:10-12
And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the Lord spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old. 11 As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. 12 Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the Lord said.”

Caleb exercised the power twins!

  1. Watch Your Thinking — focused on promise
  2. Watch Your Talking — declare the promise
  3. Watch Your Attitude — hold you position

Nasa — “Columbia your attitude is perfect.”
Dr. Carol Dweck “Your attitude is a better predictor of your success than your IQ.”
Dr. Caroline Leaf “People pick up on our attitudes – the intent of the thought – not the detail of the thought.”

LEAF — “What you are thinking every moment of every day becomes a physical reality in your brain and body, which affects your optimal mental and physical health. These thoughts collectively form your attitude, which is your state of mind, and it’s your attitude and not your DNA that determines much of the quality of your life.”

Hebrews 10:35-36
“Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.”
