#267 W.I.J.D. Series# 2, Rest

Matthew 11:28
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest.” (Message)

Sunday growing up … Loved the church part … rest of the day … sit still!!!
First movie I saw was Blazing Saddles.” … Sat feeling guilt and shame … Thought I was going to hell.

Luke 5:36-39 No one puts a piece from a new garment on an old one; otherwise the new makes a tear, and also the piece that was taken out of the new does not match the old. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst the wineskins …
“…and be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved. And no one, having drunk old wine, immediately desires new; for he says, ‘The old is better.’”

Luke 4:16  “So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.”

Luke 6:1-11 “Now it happened on the second Sabbath after the first that He went through the  grainfields. And His disciples plucked the heads of grain and ate them, rubbing them in their hands. And some of the Pharisees said to them, ‘Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?’”        

Greek ruler Antiochus   —  Jewish People in First Maccabees
“Let us die in our innocency. Heaven and earth shall testify for us that you put us to death wrongfully.’ So they rose up against them in battle on the Sabbath and they slew them with their wives and children and cattle to the number of a thousand people.”  The wouldn’t fight because of all the rabbinic tradition.

Religious leaders are watching Jesus … He came to pick a fight!
John 2:15 “When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables.”

Deuteronomy 23:25  “When you come into your neighbor’s standing grain, you may pluck the heads with your hand, but you shall not use a sickle on your neighbor’s standing grain.”

vs 3-5   “But Jesus answering them said, “Have you not even read this, what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he went into the house of God, took and ate the showbread, and also gave some to those with him, which is not lawful for any but the priests to eat?” And He said to them, “The Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.”

Colossians 2:16  “So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths,…”

Isaiah 1:13-14 “The New Moons, the Sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies—I cannot endure iniquity and the sacred meeting. Your New Moons and your appointed feasts My soul hates; They are a trouble to Me, I am weary of bearing them.”

Mark 2:27 “And He said to them, ‘The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.’”
Welsh Revival … More productive in mines when the gave the workers and animals Sunday off.

vs 6-7 “Now it happened on another Sabbath, also, that He entered the synagogue and taught. And a man was there whose right hand was withered. So the scribes and Pharisees watched Him closely, whether He would heal on the Sabbath, that they might find an accusation against Him.”

vs 8-9    “But He knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, ‘Arise and stand here.’ And he arose and stood. Then Jesus said to them, ‘I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy?’”

Rabbinic teachings:   Shab 18:3, Yoma 8:6
People can only be helped if they are going to die. You could also deliver a baby that was being born.

If your daughter breaks her arm … wait until tomorrow … eyeball hanging out … TOMORROW! 

vs 10   “And when He had looked around at them all, He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he did so, and his hand was restored as whole as the other.”
He pulled out his brokenness.  He exposed his lack. No more hiding.
He exposed his lack. No more hiding.   No more pretending.

It should now say; and they all embraced the Messiah!”
vs 11   “But they were filled with rage, and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.”

Luke 13:14  “But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, ‘There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day.’”

Matthew 12:14  “Then the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him.”

Jesus put Himself in complete conflict with religion.  He came to set people free form empty tradition and dead rituals.
John 8:36  “So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.”

Acts 6:7  “Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith.”

Matthew 11:29-30 (Message)  “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” 

REST … day to enjoy Him … Feast with family only life … SAYING  I TRUST GOD AS MY SOURCE!!! 

If you have been hiding … be free … come into the light!

If you have been peddling religion … Stop it!!!
