#201 (Wed) You Asked For It# 3, Next Generation

YOU ASKED FOR IT!

How do we secure the next generation? What is our responsibility to the next generation?

Exodus 3:6 “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.”

2 Timothy 1:5 (NIV)
“I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.”

2 Timothy 3:15 “…and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”

1 Timothy 1:18 “This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare,…”

Ephesians 6:4 “Fathers, do not irritate and provoke your children to anger [do not exasperate them to resentment], but rear them [tenderly] in the training and discipline and the counsel and admonition of the Lord.”

Admonition {nouthesia} a compound word :– to set, fix establish — the understanding reason in the narrower sense, as the capacity for spiritual truth, the higher powers of the soul, the faculty of perceiving divine things, of recognizing goodness and of hating evil.

He works with generations. We must therefore think and advance generationally.
Every generation has a sound that is unique to that generation.

“What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us. What we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal.”  Albert Pine

“A lot of people have gone further than they thought they could because someone else thought they could.”  – Unknown

Isaiah 5:26 “He will lift up a banner to the nations from afar, And will whistle to them from the end of the earth; Surely they shall come with speed, swiftly.”

Isaiah 54:13 “And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.”

Susannah Wesley, who bore 17 children, made time each week to take each of those boys and girls aside and counsel with them, speaking to them about the love of Jesus. Is it any wonder that one boy in that family became the greatest preacher of his generation, and another son became the greatest hymn writer in the English-speaking world? With a mother like that, we can understand why Charles Wesley wrote these lines, ardent with devotion to Christ: “O for a thousand tongues to sing My great Redeemer’s praise, The glories of my God and King, The triumphs of His grace! Jesus! the name that charms our fears, That bids our sorrows cease; ’Tis music in the sinner’s ears; ’Tis life, and health, and peace.”
Mark 2:1 “…and it was heard that He was in the house.” “It noised abroad …”

What is the sound coming from our house?
Tradition Religion Wisdom of man Professionalism …..
Or is it a flow of Gods power … Anointing … His presence

Mark 11:28 “And they said to Him, “By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority to do these things?”

What gave Jesus authority to do this? Jesus new what the Fathers house should look like … He had it in His DNA

If you can’t see it you can’t build it!

Three areas we must give attention to so that our whistle will be heard by this generation.

1. Focus on extending Kingdom
Jesus will build the church … We are to proclaim the kingdom
What gets you out of bed? One more in heaven one less in hell!!!

2. Give room for the release of new initiatives
An apostolic church has sent ones. What ground are you taking out of the Devils hands … Apostles confront gates and hindrance … Take new territory

3. Create an environment for an emerging generation
Get under the young people … Get out of the way so that they can grow!!!

A generation has a sound unique to the generation

Psalm 144:12 “That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; That our daughters may be as pillars,…”

A Look At A Few Father’s and Mother’s In The Word:

Woman of Canaan

The Mother Of Zebedee’s Sons
Matthew 20:20-28
20 Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Him with her sons, kneeling down and asking something from Him. And He said to her, “What do you wish?”
She said to Him, “Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom.”

What Every Mother Desires For Her Children:
1. To Be With Jesus — In the Kingdom
2. To Be Working With Jesus — Doing Kingdom stuff

A Psalm Of David
Psalm 101:2 “I’m finding my way down the road of right living, but how long before you show up? I’m doing the very best I can, and I’m doing it at home, where it counts.”

David was a great worshipper. David was a great warrior. David was a great adopted son.
David was a great King “David reigned … doing what was just and right for all his people.” 2Sam8:15
David was a failure as a father.

Amnon – raped his sister Tama — never confronted by father
Absalom – killed his brother Amnon — never confronted by father
Adonijah – tried to take the throne — his behaviour had never been addressed by his father.

1 Kings 1:5-6 “Now Adonijah, … said, “I will be king.” So he got chariots and horses ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him. (His father had never interfered with him by asking, “Why do you behave as you do?” He was also very handsome and was born next after Absalom.)”

2 Samuel 18:33 “O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you-O Absalom, my son, my son!”
A little fathering could have saved a lot of tears.
