#161 F-Bomb: Frustration

Frustration:— a feeling of dissatisfaction, often accompanied by anxiety or depression, resulting from unfulfilled needs or unresolved problems.

“Transformation is my favorite game and in my experience, anger and frustration are the result of you not being authentic somewhere in your life or with someone in your life. Being fake about anything creates a block inside of you. Life can’t work for you if you don’t show up as you.”   Jason Mraz

“Expectation is the mother of all frustration.” Antonio Banderas
“Expectations are planned resentments.”  Tullian Tchividjian

Frustration rises when you have made an investment and the return does not meet your expectation.
Unresolved disappointment.  — I made an appointment with that … expectation!!!
Frustration is the tangled pain that’s tight in your chest, it’s the knot in your belly.

Seven Deadly Shoulds
7 common sources of frustration (also known as the 7 Deadly “Shoulds”):
Control – and the belief that you should be able to fix people and prevent problems
Conflict – and the expectation that everyone should agree with you (and each other)
Communication – and the expectation that everyone should hear and understand your message
Criticism – and the belief that people should like you and your ideas
Choices – and the belief that decisions should be easy
Change – and the belief that things should slow down and return to normal (whatever that is)
Complexity – and the expectation you should be able to figure it out

Numbers 20:8, 10-12
“Speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will yield its water;…”
“Hear now, you rebels! Must we bring water for you out of this rock?” Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their animals drank.”

“Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, ‘Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.’”

Exodus 2:10 “And she called his name Moses: and she said , Because I drew him out of the water.”
Moses:—Drawn out.
It only take a moment to pull baby Moses from the Nile, but it takes a lifetime to draw out God’s purpose from within the child.

Three Basic Ways We Process Frustration:

1. REACT
A giant magnetic force field that draws the most nasty of actions. I CAN’T HELP IT … POWERFUL
That text. That facebook post. That phone call. That blast of the horn. That slap. That verbal tirade. That F-Bomb

2. REPRESS
A. The Medicators   Addictions and substance abuse.
B. The Motivators   Avoidance — personal pursuits.
C. The Meditators   Attacks — the quiet, inner bomb building that damages everything when triggered.

These can be grouped … generally come in pairs!!!

1 Samuel 30:6
“Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.”

3. Ask God What To Do

“When I called, you answered me; you made me bold and stouthearted.”  Psalm 138:3

4. Obey His Direction
“So David went,…” vs. 9
Obedience is the acid test of faith.  Only the word you do is active in your life.

5. Stay Sweet
“…and when he had eaten, his spirit returned to him,…” vs. 12
“They shall share alike.” vs. 24
Inspire the discouraged.  vs. 6 “People spoke of stoning him”
Feed the Egyptian.  vs. 11 “they gave him bread and he ate, and they let him drink water.”

6. Be Thankful
“He has preserved us and has delivered into our hands the troop that came against us.” 24
Always give glory to God as your source.

7. Share With Others
“Here is a gift for you of the spoil of the enemies of the Lord:” vs. 26
Freely you have received freely give. Bless others as a testimony of goodness in your life.
God always gives you more than enough so that you have seed to sow.

Matthew 17:17 “Jesus said, ‘What a generation! No sense of God! No focus to your lives! How many times do I have to go over these things? How much longer do I have to put up with this?’”
How do you deal with frustration?

When your frustrated speak to the ROCK. Push all your problems up!!!
